“I have been actively involved in Liberal politics at the federal, provincial and municipal level for over 70 years. My late father, an immigrant, was a poll worker and I once asked him why are we Liberals. He said “Because Liberals help people that cannot help themselves.”
All my adult life I have studied political leadership. In my view, leadership depends on principles, intelligence, character, ambition and hard work and especially resilience in adversity. I have seen these characteristics in the Liberal Prime Ministers I worked closely with – Lester Pearson, Pierre Trudeau, John Turner, John Chretien and Paul Martin. I have spent hours with Rob to determine if he possessed these leadership characteristics. I believe he has! He doesn’t take himself too seriously, modest, attracting a small capable leader’s team, listening carefully to people and with humour. He has personally knocked on over 20,000 doors across Ontario.
